12 Year Old Whisky

One of the first whiskies off the Springbank bottling line at the beginning of 2013 - the fifth edition of their rightly popular 12 year old cask strength. A touch of Springbank's trademark farmyardy smoke with a hit of rich sherried fruit thanks to the oloroso sherry cask matured whisky in the mix.

An independently bottled Highland Park from Adelphi under the Fascadale label, selected by Charles Maclean and released in a limited edition of 1500 bottles. This has been aged for 12 years and is already their fifth batch.

A 2000 vintage Edradour finished for almost 2 years in a port pipe, for a total of 12 years of maturation.

A sauternes cask finished 12 year old Edradour. Disilled on June 30th 2000, transferred to the sauternes hogshead on October 29th 2008 and the botttled on September 17th 2012.

A powerful cask-strength Arran from a single hogshead filled in 1996, just a year after the distillery was established. A drop of water will bring the best out of this sweet-smelling, peppery dram.

A single pot still incarnation of Powers whisky, named for the now-defunct old Powers distillery. This is a very classy whiskey made using a combination of bourbon and oloroso sherry cask matured spirit.

Whisky Bible Awards 2012 - Irish Whiskey of the Year

A single cask release of Arran whisky, distilled on 20th April 1998 and bottled in 2010. This whisky has been matured in a sherry cask bottled at cask strength.

A 2000 vintage from Edradour, finished in a Chardonnay hogshead for 3 years for a total of 12 years of maturation.

A 12 year old Edradour, distilled on 30th June 2000, matured in a hogshead until 29th October 2008, moved to a Sauternes hogshead and then further matured until bottling on 21st November 2012.

Rare to see a bottle of Old Parr 12yo on these shores - this deluxe blend is mostly the preserve of overseas markets.

A potent, high-strength 12yo single malt from Benriach with one extremely unusual feature - it's been triple-distilled. Horizons has also been finished in sherry casks after initial maturation in bourbon wood, and has been bottled without colouring or chill-filtration.

A 12 year old whisky from Royal Brackla, bottled by the folks at Douglas Laing as the Old Malt Cask celebration of Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee, complete with bad puns in the tasting notes.

Formerly known as '1780' in reference to the year the original Jameson distillery in Bow Street, Dublin, was founded, this has recently been relaunched as 'Special Reserve'. A smooth, spicy, sweet potstill-based blend.

Deliciously smooth, with rich dried fruits and sherry, balanced with wood smoke and spice. Described by Paul Pacult, the renowned international whisky writer, in his book Kindred Spirits as: "simply the best 12 Year Old single malt around".

An old bottling of White horse 12 year old Extra Fine blended whisky. This has been bottled in a lovely brown glass flat bottle. This has been bottled at a slightly higher strength of 43% and was likely intended for export.

The 2010 official release for Hazelburn, Springbank's triple-distilled, unpeated single malt, which is now fully mature. It's quite a colour too, suggesting some sherry influence in the final make-up. Well-priced, we expect this to go quickly.

An old 1980s bottling of Antiquary 12yo in its distinctive angular bottle.

Relaunched in 2011, Glenmorangie's sauternes-finished Nectar d'Or is now proudly boasting a prominent age statement that wasn't there before, proclaiming it to be 12 years old. Give it a couple of years and it'll be growing a weedy moustache on its top lip.
