The Islay representative in the 'Classic Malts' series is a deep, dry and exceptionally peaty bruiser. Probably the most pungent of all Islay malts, Lagavulin is not for the faint-hearted but inspires fanatical devotion in its many followers. Malt Maniacs Awards 2010 & 2011: Non-Plus-Ultra Award (Daily Drams) IWSC 2012 - Gold Outstanding Medal - Whisky - Scotch
A recent addition to the range, this 16 year old is the oldest core expression in the distillery's range (which for many years consisted solely of only the 10 year old). Aged in bourbon casks, this is a complex and fruity whisky.
A lightly coloured 16 year old whisky from Glenlivet, bottled from a single cask by Signatory for their Un-Chillfiltered Collection. Distilled on May 13th 1996, matured in a first fill sherry butt and bottled on September 27th 2012.
The initially controversial 16yo official expression of Scapa is now winning people round with a jump in quality after a few wobbly years following the rapid transition from the much-loved 12yo via the short-lived 14yo. Orkney's less shouted about (but still lovely in its own way) malt whisky has found its feet. World Whiskies Awards 2012 - Best Island 13 to 20 years
A big, bold bottling of whisky from Tobermory on the Isle of Mull - Ledaig, their peated offering. This one was selected by TWE and bottled by Gordon & Macphail, and shows off what Ledaig does best: big, peaty whisky. Maturation in a sherry cask has added a layer of sherried fruit to the earthy, rich spirit without overpowering it.
A Whisky Exchange exclusive bottling from Gordon & Macphail, distilled at Glentauchers and selected by us while visiting their rather impressive warehouses. Big, rich and sherried, chosen for its fantastic combination of sweet chocolate notes and heavy fruitiness. Excellent stuff.
With the smoothness of the 10 year-old allied to extra complexity from more ageing, this is a winner. 'A delicious and sophisticated dram with impressive depth and almost perfect weight.' Jim Murray, Whisky Magazine Dec 2000
A 1997 vintage whisky from Arran, bottled by veteran spirits experts Berry Brothers and Rudd. This was bottled in 2013 at 16 years of age, having spent an unspecified period being finished in a cask which used to hold Marsala.
A single cask whisky from Glentauchers, bottled for the Cask Strength Collection by Signatory. Distilled on February 6th 1996 and bottled exactly 16 years later on February 6th 2012 after maturing in a bourbon barrel.
A 1996 vintage Signatory bottling of whisky from Glenlivet, released as part of the Cask Strength Collection. Distilled on May 13th 1996 and bottled on 30th November 2012, this spent the intervening 16 years in a sherry butt. We assume it was a refill cask, as it's not picked up large amounts of colour, and it marries Glenlivet's elegant spirit with light sherry notes.
A 1997 vintage Glen Ord from independent bottlers Signatory as part of their Cask Strength Collection. Distilled on 30th April, it was matured in hogshead 800093 for 16 years before being bottled on 22nd November 2013 at a punchy 60.8%.
