40 Year Old Whisky

A long awaited 40 year old whisky from Bunnahabhain, a bit hit at The Whisky Show 2012. It's limited to just 750 hand numbered bottles and features an intricately designed label showing off the history of the distillery that's signed by the illustrator. The tube is made from heavy wood and features a hidden compartment in the bottom...

The product of truly inspired cask selection and blending, atypically for a Speyside there is little or no sherry influence here, allowing the elegant, floral, slightly smoky distillery character to shine through. A masterpiece.

Dalmore's extra-special 40yo is the leading light of Whyte & Mackay's Rare & Prestigious range. Dalmore ages better than perhaps any other Highland distillery, and these long-aged Dalmores are increasingly sought-after by collectors. The casks used for this 40yo were a mixture of American oak and sherry casks from the world-beating Gonzalez Byass.

Another impressive bottling from the folks at Dalmore, matured for almost four decades in bourbon casks before a final 18 month stint in 30 year old Gonzalez Byass Matusalem sherry casks. It's named for the latin word for 'Constellation' and is certainly rather shiny.

Bottled in a beautiful crystal decanter, this gorgeous fruity Bowmore has been declared by more than one of our customers to be the best that they have ever tasted. After such a long period of ageing, the malt has taken on a very elegant character and shows restrained peat combined with ethereal layers of exotic fruit. A serious, subtle malt that demands the drinker's time and full attention.

A 1961 vintage Macallan from their Fine & Rare series, offering up whiskies from back through the 20th century. This cask strength 40 year old offers an amazing insight into the development of Macallan's style over the last half century.

A very old vintage Macallan distilled in 1939 as WWII was breaking out in Europe and bottled at the end of the 1970s at 40 years of age. One of the earliest vintages in the distillery's prestige Fine & Rare series.
