An impressively aged whisky from Ben Nevis, one of the oldest we've seen from the distillery, bottled by Douglas Laing for the Old Malt Cask range. This was distilled way back in June 1966 and aged for 46 years in a refill hogshead before bottling in February 2013.
A independently released grain whisky from the Invergordon distillery, bottled by Adelphi. This was distilled way back in 1966 and matured for 46 long years before being bottled at cask strength in 2012.
An interesting single cask whisky bottled at cask strength in 2011 by The Whisky Exchange. Lochside produced both grain and malt whisky from its opening in 1957 until the early 1970s and this is a 'single blend' using only whisky from the distillery. Unusually, the whisky was blended before ageing, with the mix of grain and malt maturing in the same cask for 46 years. A very rare style from this now closed distillery.
Glen Garioch is a distillery with a comparatively low profile, and quality has varied over its lifetime under a succession of different owners - but real aficionados will tell you that the older expressions are some of the best malts in Scotland. This is a whisky with fruit and floral notes, but also, crucially, some restrained peat.
