A Courvoisier named to celebrate Napoleon's great love for Courvoisier. This is slightly problematic, given that Napoleon I died fourteen years before Courvoisier was founded, but he did apparently tour wine & spirit merchant Emmanuel Courvoisier's cellars once, and Napoleon III did make Courvoisier an official supplier to the Imperial Court in 1869. That's good enough for the marketing department.

This 21yo Courvoisier was launched in summer 2011 as part of the innovative Connoisseur Collection of age statement cognacs designed to pull in new customers to the category. The eaux-de-vie for this assemblage is entirely from the Grande Champagne region of Cognac.

A super-luxury Courvoisier, L'Essence is blended from over 100 ancient eaux-de-vies from Grande Champagne and Borderies and is presented in a Baccarat teardrop decanter suspended in a frame complete with a finely crafted crystal stopper, inspired by the signet rings given by Napoleon Bonaparte to commanders in his army in recognition of noble acts.

L'Esprit de Cognac is Courvoisier's ne plus ultra expression of one of the world's noblest spirits, and has been crafted from some of the finest Cognac vintages of the last 200 years - the youngest eau-de-vie used in the assemblage is from 1930, while the oldest dates from the Napoleonic era.
