Part of the triumvirate of heavily-peated southern Islay malts, alongside LVMH's Ardbeg and Diageo's Lagavulin, Laphroaig was founded in 1810 by brothers Alexander and Donald Johnston (although the official year of start-up is given as 1815 on the company's labels and literature). The histories of Lagavulin and Laphroaig have been closely tied ... Read More »
A fantastic old gift set from Laphroaig, pairing their old presentation 10 year old cask strength 10 year old and the now-discontinued 15 year old whiskies, along with a couple of branded tumblers.
The cask strength bottling of Laphroaig 25yo is a very different beast to the old 25yo (and in our opinion, upping the strength is a big improvement). Rich and smouldering, with a big coal hit and a lingering seaweed character. We said at the time that this was tremendous stuff, and now it's only gone and won the IWSC Trophy for Best Cask Strength Single Malt.
An old pre-warrant release of Laphroaig 10 year old. We estimate that this was bottled sometime in the late 1980s just after they switched from their presentation tins to tubes.
A pre-royal warrant (probably late 1980s) bottle of Laphroaig 10 year old, displayed in a presentation tin. The tin itself is adorned with pictures of stills and men cutting peat, representing the traditional methods still used by Laphroaig to this day.
A 1991 vintage Laphroaig, bottled by the distillery for Highgrove House, the home of the Prince of Wales. Charles likes to ensure he has a ready supply of Laphroaig to hand.
A special bottling from the 2006 Islay Festival of Malt and Music. This cask was filled in 1994 by John Campbell, Laphroaig’s Distillery Manager, back when he was an apprentice, and was bottled for the 2006 Feis Ile to commemorate John's 12 years of service as the first true "Ileach" to become Laphroaig’s distillery manager.
A special release of Laphroaig, put together for the Islay Festival in 2003. An extra year of age to the regular 10yo bottling with a bit more smoke and dryness.
The first edition of Laphroaig 25yo; this is a very mellow, restrained expression with pretty delicate peat (for 'Froyg anyway), some baked apple notes and a gentle nuttiness. A malt to unwind with.
A special bottling of Laphroaig at the unusual age of eleven years old - this was selected by Robert Hicks and Robin Shields to celebate the tenth anniversary of the Friends of Laphroaig in 2004.
An old release from Berry Brothers & Rudd. This Laphroaig is a marriage of two casks which were matured for around 20 years and bottled in 1999. A seriously interesting bottle, as independent Laphroaigs from the 1970s vintages are extremely rare.
Please note that the fill level on this item is a bit low. However, there are no signs of leakage.
The travel exclusive Laphroaig 20 year old Double Cask, matured for 18 years in bourbon hogsheads and finished for 2 years in Laphroaig's bespoke quarter casks.
