Built in 1846, Caol Ila is the largest of the eight working distilleries on the island of Islay (situated off the west coast of Scotland), with a production capacity of 3 million litres per year. In the classic Islay style, Caol Ila is made predominantly with peated malt and the resulting phenols have a big influence on the final flavour of the ... Read More »
Caol ila 12 Year Old is of medium weight, but still packing plenty of potent phenols, this is a refined, powerful dram with a compensating oiliness. A balanced, peaty beauty. International Wine & Spirits Competition 2010: Gold Medal - Best in Class IWSC 2012 - Gold Medal - Whisky - Scotch
A fourth release of whisky from Cl in the Elements range, a big and punchy display from this underrated distillery. Clean, crisp and very assertive at full strength with a big peaty punch, but mellows and gets very briney with water.
Taking its name from the Gaelic for ‘dawn’, Moch is a wonderful newcomer from Caol Ila and is a must-try for fans of this outstanding distillery. Lighter in style than the standard 12yo expression, Moch is a fantastic easy-drinking dram.
A indie Caol Ila from the folks at Gordon & Macphail, distilled in 1999 and bottled for their Connoisseurs Choice line. Caol Ila is one of our favourite Islay distilleries and this sherry cask matured edition is something a little different to what the regular distillery bottlings offer.
A slightly mad Murray McDavid creation, taking 1991 Caol Ila whisky matured in Bourbon casks, and finishing it in casks that used to hold Quart-de-Chaume, a sweet white wine made with Chenin Blanc grapes from the Loire valley, for a total of 17 years of maturation.
A 2001 vintage Caol Ila released by independent bottlers Gordon & Macphail as park of their Cask Strength Series. This was aged for 12 years in a pair of refill sherry casks before being bottled at 59.8% in September 2013.
A 1996 vintage Signatory Un-Chillfiltered Collection release of whisky from Caol Ila. A vatting of two hogsheads, distilled on September 3rd 1996, matured for 17 years and bottled on 8th November 2013.

A single cask release from Caol Ila distillery. This whisky was distilled in 1993 and matured for a full 13 years, after which it was bottled by ACEO ltd for a Case in Cask syndicate. This has been bottled at cask strength and without chill-filtration.
Distilled in 1999, the 2011 release of the unpeated Caol Ila 12yo is an absolute belter - and amazingly easy to drink, even at its slightly scary full strength of 64%. Bottled from first fill ex-bourbon American oak casks, this was one of our favourites in the 2011 Special Releases.
2013's unpeated release of Caol Ila is named for distillery manager Billy Stitchell, who is retiring after almost 40 years at the distillery. This year it's been bottled without an age statement and despite being 'unpeated' there's a definite smoky tang to the whisky, although less so than in previous years.
A wonderfully fresh, minerally Caol Ila bottled by TWE from a single ex-bourbon cask. Lots of sea air, seaweed and seashells make this the olfactory equivalent of a picnic on the beach. A big hit at 2012's TWE Whisky Show.
