World Whiskies Awards 2012 - Best Non-Bourbon No Age Statement

A 1991 vintage whiskey from Buffalo Trace bottled as part of their Experimental Collection. A marriage of 8 similar casks left to mature for 19 years and 1 month and bottled at 45% after losing 62% of the casks volume to evaporation.

A limited edition Buffalo Trace bottled from 8 casks filled in May 1993 and then stored next to each other in the warehouse before bottling. It lost almost half its volume over the 17.5 years of its maturation and it looks like an interesting prospect.

A very special small batch made up of selected casks distilled using three of Four Roses' ten bourbon 'recipes'. The whiskies used for this limited edition have been aged between ten and 15 years old and bottled at full cask strength.

The fourth in Woodford Reserve's Masters Collection, Seasoned Oak Finish has been finished in barrels that have been seasoned (ie left outside) for three to five years (rather than the usual three to five months). This process of seasoning changes the wood by reducing tannins and ultimately creates a new range of flavour compounds, and the resulting whisky is proclaimed by Woodford to be their 'most robust whiskey yet'.

A fantastic whisky in great packaging. Named for Colonel E H Taylor, an early owner of the Buffalo Trace distillery who helped shape the bourbon production process, it uses an adaptation of his old recipe and methods to give an old fashioned, great tasting bourbon.

Another experiment in the Woodford Reserve Masters Collection, this 1838 Sweet Mash expression is made with entirely fresh ingredients - eschewing the addition of 'Sour' mash from the previous fermentation (as is standard practice across the industry).

A very desirable 1995 Wild Turkey in extremely fancy packaging, this long-aged bourbon from one of Kentucky's finest distillers has been hand-selected by Master Distiller Jimmy Russell himself and comes in rather arresting wood and copper packaging.

Released in 2005, this was the first bottling of William Larue Weller, the cask strength wheated bourbon representative in Buffalo Trace's multi-award-winning Antique Collection. A truly marvellous whisky that scored 92 points in Jim Murray's Whisky Bible, this is a very big dram that needs a little time in the glass to really open up.
