Swedish whisky - so far exclusively from the Mackmyra distillery, although more Swedish whiskies are imminent - has caused a sensation since the first Mackmyra Preludium releases burst onto the scene to general euphoria in 2006. This is a category with real momentum.
An award winning whisky from Sweden's Mackmyra, based on bourbon cask matured spirit with some sherry casks and fresh Swedish oak in the mix. They also blend in a little of their smoky whisky for a light, well-balanced and fruity dram with a touch of spicy juniper smoke.
After numerous Preludiums, all of which have been incredibly successful, Sweden's first single malt whisky Mackmyra makes its full debut. Interestingly, some roasted Swedish oak casks were used in the maturation.
And here we have the new edition of the massively popular Mackmyra, Sweden's favourite (okay, only) native malt whisky. This new version is called 'Fresh Swedish Smoke' and will be the last in the Preludium series.
The first release in Spirit of Hven's Seven Stars series, Dubhe, is named after the eponymous triple star system. matured in a combination of American, French and Spanish oak, this is spicy and herbaceous.
Sweden's Box have created the Advanced Master Class series. The first 'course' contains five 20cl bottles of the same spirit, each with a different toasting level to highlight the effect this has on the finished whisky. Further courses are planned including different yeasts and warehouse temperatures.
