Swedish whisky - so far exclusively from the Mackmyra distillery, although more Swedish whiskies are imminent - has caused a sensation since the first Mackmyra Preludium releases burst onto the scene to general euphoria in 2006. This is a category with real momentum.
After numerous Preludiums, all of which have been incredibly successful, Sweden's first single malt whisky Mackmyra makes its full debut. Interestingly, some roasted Swedish oak casks were used in the maturation.
And here we have the new edition of the massively popular Mackmyra, Sweden's favourite (okay, only) native malt whisky. This new version is called 'Fresh Swedish Smoke' and will be the last in the Preludium series.
The 5th bottling Mackmyra's Special range of whiskies, inspired by Autumn forest walks. It's matured in casks that used to hold lingonberry and blueberry wine.
The 6th release in Mackmyra's Special range, inspired by the summer meadows, is delicately fruity and floral, using a combination of bourbon and sherry casks for maturation.
Mackmyra's fourth special release is Double Dip Bourbon, named for its unique double maturation, beginning in larger bourbon casks before ending in smaller hand-made 30-litre casks. The whisky is descrtibed as crisp, fresh and fruity with a sweet spiciness.
