Swedish whisky - so far exclusively from the Mackmyra distillery, although more Swedish whiskies are imminent - has caused a sensation since the first Mackmyra Preludium releases burst onto the scene to general euphoria in 2006. This is a category with real momentum.
An award winning whisky from Sweden's Mackmyra, based on bourbon cask matured spirit with some sherry casks and fresh Swedish oak in the mix. They also blend in a little of their smoky whisky for a light, well-balanced and fruity dram with a touch of spicy juniper smoke.
After numerous Preludiums, all of which have been incredibly successful, Sweden's first single malt whisky Mackmyra makes its full debut. Interestingly, some roasted Swedish oak casks were used in the maturation.
And here we have the new edition of the massively popular Mackmyra, Sweden's favourite (okay, only) native malt whisky. This new version is called 'Fresh Swedish Smoke' and will be the last in the Preludium series.
This 8th edition in Mackmyra's Special series is called Handplockat, hand picked, in honour of the wine makers who carefully chose the grapes to make the sauternes that previously rested in the casks used to mature the whisky.
The 6th release in Mackmyra's Special range, inspired by the summer meadows, is delicately fruity and floral, using a combination of bourbon and sherry casks for maturation.
