Dark golden rums have spent a relatively longer period ageing in oak casks, often picking up great depth of character. These rums are therefore usually unsuitable for all but the very poshest cocktails and should really be enjoyed neat or with a single ice cube.
Bottled at a good drinking strength of 46%, Sea Wynde is a blend of aged pot-distilled rums from Jamaica and Guyana produced in small batches under the auspices of a certain Jim Murray, author of the Whisky Bible. Splendid packaging, with a metal badge on the front of the bottle.
A blend of aged rums from Guyana and Barbados, which are shipped to Williams & Humbert in Spain. The rums are then blended and aged for a further three years in ex-sherry casks, giving the finished product a wonderful sweetness and depth.
A hugely popular rum in Spain, Barcelo is little-known in this country, which is a shame as it is excellent. Winner of Gold Medal and 'Best In Category' at the International Cane Spirits Festival 2008.
Not to be confused with Zacapa Centenario, this Rum is made by Centenario Internacional, who hail from Costa Rica. Aged in white oak barrels for 7 years, this is equally at home in cocktails or sipped on its own.

A mix of heavy bodied Wedderburn style rum and medium bodied Plummer, Smith and Cross is an excellent Jamaican rum that's making waves in the bar world. Bottled at 57%, navy strength, and intensely flavoured, this works well in cocktails but also has a depth that rewards those who like to sip their rum.
A golden rum from Colorado's Montanya distillery, produced in a town with the excellent name of 'Crested Butte'. They mature the rum in American oak casks before diluting it with local spring water and bottling.
Fair Rum is produced using only Fair Trade Certified sugar cane from Belize, grown using organic and sustainable farming methods. It is then aged for 5 years in American oak barrels, before being shipped to Cognac to be bottled. This is aromatic with spicy notes and a long finish.
A very special golden Trinidad rum, originally bottled for super-cool bar Death & Co. in Manhattan, The Scarlet Ibis is blended from rums aged three to five years and has been bottled at a higher than normal strength of 49%.
A limited edition rum from Chairman's Reserve, blended from casks that had been forgotten about after the fire that seriously damaged the distillery in 2007. Having lost a lot of warehouse space they put the casks wherever they could and finding a parcel of these lost casks they have created this older than usual expression.
