Islay whiskies are known for their peatiness, although not all the distilleries on the island produce this style - Bruichladdich and Bunnahabhain have little or no peat in their standard expressions and Caol Ila produce an unpeated batch every year, while even the famously smoky Ardbeg has an unpeated expression, Blasda. A truly legendary Laphroaig from the 1974 vintage, this heavily-sherried 31 year old was a limited edition of around 900 bottles produced for a French retailer and scored a whopping 95 points from Serge Valentin on Whiskyfun before capping that with a Gold Medal and the Non Plus Ultra award for the highest scoring whisky out of all the entries at the Malt Maniacs Awards 2005. An acknowledged masterpiece.
An very rare old Bowmore 18yo from the 1960s in an unusual pear-shaped bottle. The original plastic seal was broken and coming off, we replaced it with a new clear plastic seal.
The final release in the new Bowmore 1964 trilogy, Gold Bowmore is a marriage of three bourbon casks plus the last (and supposedly the best) of the staggeringly good Oloroso casks from this momentous vintage.
A truly rare whisky from Bowmore's Number one Vault. Distilled in 1957 and carefully watched over by the distillery manager for 38 long years. After which, there was no option but to bottle the whisky, lest it fall below 40% ABV.
1964 seems to be something of a miracle vintage for Bowmore - not only did it produce Black Bowmore and the Oddbins Oloroso cask, but also this beautiful Fino sherry expression. Here the peat is restrained and subtle, leaving the way clear for a stunning, incredibly fruity Bowmore.
An incredibly rare Bowmore blend, this Islay Legend bottle was one of just 25 made to be served at the ceremonial meal celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the distillery's takeover by Morrison Bowmore. Of the 25 bottles, it is thought that only around ten survived, being given to distillery VIPs after the meal.
A very very special bottling, this is a vatting of the two oldest casks that were left at Ardbeg and comes in a suitably hefty 'museum piece' box. You even get some soft white gloves to caress it with.
Bottled in a beautiful crystal decanter, this gorgeous fruity Bowmore has been declared by more than one of our customers to be the best that they have ever tasted. After such a long period of ageing, the malt has taken on a very elegant character and shows restrained peat combined with ethereal layers of exotic fruit. A serious, subtle malt that demands the drinker's time and full attention.
The first edition of the legendary Black Bowmore - distilled in 1964 and matured in oloroso casks for 29 years before being unleashed on the world. Only 2000 bottles of this were released and there are only few of them left in the wild...
A bottling of a single cask, part of the same batch of Oloroso casks that produced Black Bowmore. This particular cask yielded just 99 bottles, of which only 95 went on sale. This was originally earmarked by Bowmore as the very best of these famous casks and tasting it, you can see why - all the flavours are super-concentrated.
Ardbeg Double Barrel is something pretty special. This leather case from Purdey and Sons contains an Omas fountain pen, a leather-bound notebook for you to record your tasting notes and eight sterling silver cups. Oh, and two single cask Ardbegs from 1974 - both bottled at cask strength and packaged in hand-blown bottles with sterling silver labels.
Just 250 of these sets are being released worldwide
