Glenfarclas is one of our favourite malts. The standard range was recently repackaged and the liquid in each of the products was improved considerably. At a recent tasting, everyone was very impressed at the quality of the whole range, which is still bottled from 100% sherry casks.
Fans of sherried brands like The Macallan should give these whiskies a try if they haven't tried them recently. In terms of price & quality we feel there is very little to compare. The 15yo, 21yo and the 30yo are our personal favourites. They have just released a range of 43 consecutive vintages from 1952 to 1994 called "The Family Cask" and another new vintage will be released each year. You might say ‘This sounds like The Macallan Fine & Rare series’.
We say ‘It’s similar but Macallan had many missing vintages in their range and their prices are comparatively more expensive’. These Glenfarclas vintages are really quite reasonable: a 55 years old malt for £1175.00, we can't think of much else on the market at a similar price level - however we do feel the younger whiskies in the series seem a tad expensive.
We have many of these vintages available in stock, however please note that some vintages are pre-order only. Therefore, please note that orders for The Family Casks may take 7-14 days for delivery. We will be happy to answer phone or email queries to check availability.
The fifth 1981 released for Glenfarclas's Family Cask series is, unusually, from a plain hogshead - most of the series have been from first fill or refill sherry casks, so this is something a bit different and will make an interesting comparison to the rest of the range.
The fifth release of Glenfarclas's 1982 vintage Family Cask series is, unusually, from a plain hogshead rather than a first fill or refill sherry cask, and will most likely be milder and less sweet than normal Glenfarclas.
Another cask strength vintage sherry hogshead from Glenfarclas bottled as part of the Family Casks series. The perfect gift for anyone born in 1969.
Speyside's best distilleries. All but three of the range (1952, 1979 & 1984) are from first fill or refill sherry casks.
