Mortlach
Officially founded in 1823 by James Findlater, it is believed that illicit whisky production had been taking place at Mortlach for many years prior to the license being granted.  The distillery changed hands a few times in the mid 19th-Century and was silent from 1837, when it was part-owned by James and John Grant, who promptly removed all the distilling apparatus for use at their new Glen Grant distillery.
