A top-quality packaging update (farewell, stags!) for this Founders Reserve Glen Garioch which has been bottled at 48% and priced very sensibly. A very welcome return to form for a distillery with enormous potential.
Tastes a little young. The finish could be more smooth. That said, pretty good malt for the price. It reminds me of rye (dry and spicy), in a good way.
Nose: alcohol vapors (!), then it reveals menthol followed by honey
Palate: tinge of honey, followed by dry eucalyptus, nutmeg and peppermint
Finish: vanilla, oak, and even some orange blossom peaks through, quickly followed by a dry pepper that gives a little too much bite.
Overall rating: 7.5/10

I have to agree with S. Bennetto. Love the whisky, but really wished they kept the Stagg!! So much tradition thrown away. Very sad to see.......

I went to this distillery on my honeymoon 2 weeks ago and you can't go wrong with this brand. The 12 year old is amazingly good, but the Founder's Reserve is excellent as well. I highly recommend either.

A shame they removed the stag from the labels when they revamped he bottles. A real loss if you ask me!

Read: Glen Gaeriee. No age statement - it is 7-8yo. Waiting for a 12yo edition in years to come:)
