Finally, we've managed to get hold of this Yamazaki 1984! Sukhinder came back from a trip to Japan in 2009 raving about this one, and since then it's won all kinds of acclaim, the latest being a Gold Medal at the International Spirits Challenge and being named World's Best Single Malt Whisky at the 2011 World Whisky Awards. The secret is the proportion of spirit aged in native Japanese 'Mizunara' oak casks as well as the American and European ones, apparently.
