This is the second edition of Springbank's 18yo, with a change of presentation to bring it into line with the rest of the range. The first edition of this was extremely popular, with more than a hint of sherry amongst the Springbank brine and smoke, and this version has already been named as Best Campbeltown Malt aged 13-20 at the World Whisky Awards 2010.

This really is an exceptional offering, on the nose I'm finding an unusual blend of sea spray almost champagne like effervescence, butterscotch and white pepper. The arrival is super-light, a truffle oil coating of the palate moving onto a light sherry and sea-salt stage and finishing with a fresh ginger and long tingling white pepper finish that sparkles like fine champagne.
