Lagavulin is probably Diageo's most highly-rated distillery, with its muscular peaty presence and flashes of honey sending most of the cognoscenti into a swoon. This 15yo from 1993 is probably the most eagerly-awaited of the Managers Choice series, particularly as it's one of only a handful of sherried single cask Lagavulins ever released.

The best Lagavulin I ever tasted. The dry peaty & smokey flavours are so well balanced by the rich fruity sweetness. Epic whisky.

It's peaty, it's sherried; it noses and tastes a tad young; there's not much complexity going on. It's not as good or as distinctive as the 12 or 16yo, and certainly nowhere near the stellar quality of the glorious 21yo. A missed opportunity to bottle a great single cask (or does Lagavulin require vatting to be great?) Sorry.
