N: Frankly gorgeous. Creamy vanilla, baked apples, whiff of cinnamon & cocoa. Gets quite leafy for a while, then wonderful varnished wood aromas. The balance of fruit and wood is just about perfect.
P: A delicious mix of sweet and savoury, with mild toffee flavours and the vanilla from the nose balanced by the appley fruit and very well-defined spicy oak and spices. Impressively deep and very moreish.
F: Good length. Gentle and warming, with toffee and some hitherto unnoticed nuttiness.
C: A gem from an underrated distillery. Glengoyne's lack of peat leads some to regard it as a worthy but dull whisky, but the truth is that the spirit made here is of remarkable quality, and when it gets into the right cask the results are magical.
