A very good Islay single malt with plenty of character. I recently tasted another Pedro Ximinez finished whisky (Benriach 15yo) and there the sweetness was almost too overwhelming. Not so with Lagavulin DE; here the added sherry flavor tames the characteristic smokiness only slightly, creating a very balanced profile. Not my personal favorite Islay whisky, but nevertheless a great quality product. 8 out of 10
