The second in Glenmorangie's series of Private Editions (the first being the hugely popular Sonnalta), Finealta has sparked interest in that some lightly peated barley has been used in its creation - supposedly inspired by an (ahem) recently-discovered 1903 order for Glenmorangie from the Savoy hotel. The name is Gaelic for 'Elegance', it says here, and Finealta has been matured in ex-sherry and plain new American oak casks. IWSC 2012 - Gold Medal - Whisky - Scotch
Yes Adam I agree, unless there is a large variation in batches (doubt it) I would also describe this as medium peated (think HP12). A most enjoyable experience. Typical Glenmorangie flavours are delivered before the smoky finish. Great stuff.

Disagree totally with last review. There is plenty of peat, and subtle woodsmoke. Would go as far as to say that it has a medium peaty flavour not a light one, and is complemented by the sherry notes. I prefer it to Astar, and rate it highly. Those who have tried this and don't detect any or enough peat need to refine their taste buds by trying as varied a selection of whiskies as possible.

Completely agree with the review above. Almost overpoweringly with perhaps sulfur notes, and no identifiable peat at all. A pity, really, because all the other GM bottlings have been excellent, especially the astonishing Astar.

Nice but the strong incense-like floral (jasmine?) notes in the nose put me off a bit too much. And I found the much-promoted peat to be lacking. Interesting but not for me and I would suggest better value can be found even in the core GM range.
