A 1995 vintage Panamanian rum distilled at Distilleria Don Jose and bottled by Mezan. The distillery was founded in 1936 but Don Jose Varelo Blanco, the founder of the country's first sugar mill, and it's still run by his family to this day.

Clear, bright golden. Delicate floral/perfumed aromas on a buttery nose with whiffs of nubuck leather and dried tropical fruit. Wonderfully delicate yet complex palate with satsuma zest, sultana and dried tropical fruit, just enough oak and sweet spice. Long, satisfying finish with lingering sweet fruit balanced by dry, lightly spiced oak. Rum doesn't get much better than this. 5.5/5
