The smoky and peaty underbelly anchors a sweet and spicy character, with disarming smoothness and a long, long finish. Brilliant stuff, and one of the ultimate tipples in my book.

Further to my previous comment.... just wanted to add that there's a very evident lingering aftertaste of tasty smoked salmon on the long finish. PX sherry cask finish and the peated malt really compliment each other especially with this one.

Much sweeter than the original lagavulin 16 year old expression, less peaty/smoky. i'd liken the extra sweetness to raisins dipped in golden syrup. Hardly any alcohol burn in the mouth or down the throat on this baby, smoothness to the max. oh and yes a long finish which leaves the lovely mellowed peat lingering for ages afterwards. Only criticism, as with all of Diageo's distiller's editions, they could do with being bottled at a slightly higher alcohol of 46 or 48% plus non-chill filtration.

A hair better than the 16 year old. But in that hair there are worlds of complexity, smoke, peat and spice with a long lingering finish that keeps you thinking for superlatives minutes after.
