Glenfarclas 43 Year Old Cognac Cask
70cl / 40.7%
Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Distillery Bottling
Glenfarclas are perhaps best known for their heavily sherried bottlings. This time, however, we have been graced with something quite special... a 43 year old Glenfarclas matured in Cognac casks. As far as we know, there have been only a small handful of whiskies matured in Cognac casks (and from what we have been hearing, this one is absolutely gorgeous).

Tasting Notes:
Tasting Notes by Dave Broom for Whisky Magazine

Nose
Very perfumed with an almost vinous quality to the nose. Blackberries, perfumed candles mixed with honeysuckle, ginseng, tamarind and a dunnage-like earthiness.

Palate
More wood apparent but only to add to the weird exoticism. Rancio galore. Plenty of musk and a pleasing bitterness - powdered clove, star anise and hints of vintage rhum agricole.

Finish
Spiced and long.

Comments
For me best neat. A must-have.

Tasting Notes by Martine Nouet for Whisky Magazine

Nose
Intense, elegant, complex. Fruit and oak are intertwined in a luscious fragrant bouquet. Peaches stewed in honey. Dates and dried apricot. Sandalwood. Touch of incense. Walnut.

Palate
Silky, caressing. Again, a perfect integration of oak and fruit. So complex. Dried fruit like Dundee cake.

Finish
Lingering, elegantly nutty.

Comments
Incredibly "alive" for a 43 Years Old whisky. Absolutely wonderful. Fully matured or just finished in a cognc cask? Whatever, it worked superbly.

9.2/10
