Product Description
An old bottling of Old Mr Boston's Rocking Chair blended American Whiskey that we think was bottled in the 1970s. The use of 'American Whiskey' rather than bourbon on the label suggests that this has been aged in refill casks.

Used to buy this in Worcester, MA as a WPI student. It was a decent moderately priced whiskey that filled the bill. The best thing about it was the smiling little retired sea captain sitting in a rocking chair with a smile on his face. There was a little story to explain the name of the product. Old sailing captains, retired from the sea would lash a keg of whiskey under their rocking chair. In this way they ingeniously duplicated the rocking motion of wind driven clipper ships which gave their whiskey a richer, smoother flavor. That is from 50 years ago!
We drank it in the 60's because it was cheap. The pitch was that a sea captain put a barrel of whiskey under his rocking chair and rocked all the way back thus giving the whiskey a really mellow, smooth taste. comparable to Old Mr. Boston Bronze label but a little cheaper.
Back in 1975, they had this stuff in the Class VI store on Yongsan South Post in Korea. It cost $1.00 a bottle, and I'm not kidding. Stuff was rough, very similar to Philadelphia. Couldn't beat the price or the resulting hangover.
Very smooth and crisp! Not overrated with those big names, a real nice whiskey. My wife would add it to cakes and cookies instead of rum ,came out great! I have six cases of rocking chair Scotch from 1970s, I break open 1 bottle once a year for Christmas ,very mellow!
Drank it all the time in the the Aluetian Islands where I was stationed in the Navy in the mid sixties. If you read the history on the back, It describes how it got it's name. "Old sea captains retired from the sea would strap a keg of whiskey underneath their rocking chairs and in that way they ingeniously duplicated the rolling motion of the wind bitten clipper ships that gave the whiskey a richer finer flavor". Don't tell me I had nothing to do!
