American Grain Spirit
A rye spirit from the folks behind Wasmund's single malt. It's not allowed to be called whiskey in the EU as it's under 3 years old or in the USA as it's not been in a new charred American oak cask. Instead the rye heavy spirit has been matured in first and second fill bourbon casks along with new and used apple wood and oak chips to give a surprising amount of development in just 12 months.

Tasting Notes:
Billy

Nose: Loads of rye spice and grain, brown sugar, juicey green apples, crushed cloves and a big creamy sweetness.

Palate: Bitter wood balanced with sweet grain and some fruity sugars. Bubblegum, liqourice, sour cream and soft apples.

Finish: A bit of young spirit, sweet apples, woody spice and lingering grain.

Comment: Lots of flavours from the mash itself as well as some incredible fruitiness. The bottle says light smoke and I didn't get much, but the only notice that this is such a young spirit is a little bit of new make on the finish.
