"Built in 1881 at the mouth of the river Margadale, this is the "Westering Home" whisky. This sample is a Benylin colour from a refill sherry butt. There are those who think a sherried Islay is blasphemy but this works perfectly well. There is a bit of sherry on the nose with treacle and a touch of wax. Fruit is in abundance (sultanas, baked apple, rhubarb and bananas). With water it is honey sweet and slightly oaky. To drink it is rich but dry, sweet and spicy (orange, clove and liquorice). A well-balanced and very acceptable dram whatever your preferences."
