Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Scotch Malt Whisky Society
Only the 2nd ever cask that The Scotch Malt Whisky Society bottled from Lagavulin. They describe is as "A happy reminder of primary school", due to the tasting note of chewed pencils. Bottled at 63.8%, this should be a punchy dram for peat fans.

The distillery stands close to the ruins of Dunavaig castle, once the stronghold of the Lord of the Isles. Having added some water (the neat whisky gives little away), close your eyes and think of your early school days. Do chewed pencils come to mind? Carbolic soap? Bonfires of autumn leaves? Further attention might reveal the bonfire to be on a beach (there is a distinct aroma of the dying embers of driftwood), and the pencils become charcoal. The finish is very dry, even bitter, and the aftertaste smoky.
