Highland Sinlge Malt Scotch Whisky
Scotch Malt Whisky Society
This was the 4th single cask that the Scotch Malt Whisky Society bottled from North Port (aka Brechin). This one is titled "A dram for Santa". The distillery closed in 1983, making bottlings highly sought after. This has notes of vanilla ice cream and tangerines.

Built in 1820 by a family farming the rich Angus soils around Brechin, the distillery was bought by DCL in 1922 and dismantled in 1983. It is rarely encountered as a single. This cask has imparted little colour, but an extraordinary aroma and even flavour of tangerines. The first impression (unreduced) is of vanilla ice cream; only when water is added do the tangerines start-zest and pith, then burnt peel. A perfect Christmas malt, by association of smells.
