A fresh and fruity whisky from Yamazaki, full of red fruit and a touch of sherry cask. It's also got some mizunara (Japanese oak) matured whisky in the mix, which comes through as a complex spicy and almost incense-like note. A well put together and deep dram.
Nose: The wine cask seems to dominate the nose here with strawberries and red fruit taking centre stage. However, sitting quietly in the background is the incense from the mizunara, a hint of dried fruit from the sherry cask and a touch of coconut.
Palate: An abundance of red fruit again, with raspberries, strawberries and even redcurrants coming through, although there’s more dimensions to this than the first wine cask sample that we tried. White peach, a hint of wood and spice, back-up notes of red cherries and candied fruits all come into play here as well.
Finish: Relatively long finish with vanilla and sweet spice dancing around the tongue.
Comments: This seriously develops and expands on the three previous samples. It’s really interesting to see how characters from each sample resonate onto this whisky but with so much more character coming into the final product.

Smooth as silk and very drinkable. Very good for the price

Nicely fruity on the nose, the sherry cask doing its stuff. Sweet and fragrant on the palate, rosehip and incense notes. Short and a little insubstantial finish. Not the most complex dram you'll ever taste but, hey, this is a very decent Japanese whisky, especially at forty quid a throw.

This whisky is as good as a lot of the famous Scottish brands and hard to believe there is a rival for Scotch Whisky

This is a really well ballanced whisky. A smooth taste with a slightly floral aftertaste. This whisky is amazing for the price, I actually prefer it to the 10 year old.

Great whisky; especially for the price. Slightly sweeter than the 12 year and unusually fruity for a Japanese whisky. Definitely worth a try.

This is a lovely little expression from Yamazaki. There are very floral, butterscotch and licorice elements to this quite light and spicy dram. It has a very crisp finish too that delights the senses. I particularly enjoyed this as part of a Highball cocktail to drink it how the Japanese enjoy it. 1 part whisky, 2 parts soda water over ice in a tall glass. Mmm, it was a delicious and very refreshing sip in the sun. This is now a definite firm favourite session whisky of mine, and probably the best Japanese whisky you can get in this price range.

Strawberries, spice and red fruits galore. This is an extremely competent malt. In truth, it leans towards the youthful side of balanced but it's none the worse for it. The wine cask influence keeps things playful and there's enough spice to beef up the whole experience.
Can't argue with the price, either.

Bought as a present for my husband as this is his favourite whiskey. Expensive but absolutely worth it. Silky smooth and is far more superior in taste than more commonly know whiskey brands.

Very nice whisky. Personaly I prefer the 10y Original Yamazaki.

Just can not believe the quality if whisky for the price. Could not be happier. The Yamazaki is a butch version of the hibiki 12. Heroic stuff
