This is similar to the 12 year old Special Reserve but a tiny bit smoother and more oily. It is certainly better than the normal 12 year old and as Dave said on 19/12/10 it is better than the 18 year old too! I love the way they have made the label look as if it has yellowed with age.
Great whiskey. I bought it this summer while in dublin and once I tasted it I was hooked. Great flavor, great finish. I wish i would have purchased more than one bottle when I was in Dublin but I had 16 bottles in my luggage of different whiskeys already.
The "Distillers Selection" is GREAT way better than the regular 12 yr old Jameson... Obviously by law they must list the age of the whiskey by the youngest that goes in the bottle, but the distillery adds more older whiskeys than those that go into the regular 12 yr old... I brought a bottle home and it was FAR and AWAY better than the 18 yr old in my humble opinion... honestly if you want something that comes close try the Middleton Very Rare, but again my opinion!
I bought this bottle in Dublin and brought it back to the states to celebrate my engagement. Couldn't have picked a better whiskey.
I must be missing something here.. its nice, but is it great? i if you want a nice 12 year jamesons get the special reserve 12 year old
