I was genuinely not impressed, nose was fine, spicy, a little vanilla. Thin on the palette with no serious finish. Not like a 12yo.
Just opened the bottle. Poured a little into my rocks glass with a cube. Nose- new tire. Such a surprise. Spicey on the toungue. The thing that is also surprising is that this rum is dry. Not even a hint of sweet. I taste vanilla and a hint of cocoa. Only 43% alcohol but the alcohol is very forward. I wonder if this was a blind tasting if I would guess this is rum. Don't get me wrong. I like the drink. More sophisticated than I expected. Now I want to try the older expression from Appleton.
For the price I feel this is one of the best sipping rums out there. You can taste the hard work and care that was put into this rum. The silky smooth texture, Creamy notes, and that wonderful brown sugar and orange after taste is heavenly
Now this rum is the bomb ! and for your money you'll be struggling to find a better rum out there I'm pleased to say that I've tried some excellent rums out there now and my transition from single malt to fine rum is almost complete you need to try this appletons I promise you that you won't be disappointed .
I''m not a rum expert but I have quite a few rum bottles in my cabin. Thought I''ll have an evening sip as I''m working on the pc, poured a little in the glass and continued working. After a while working I bent backwards and looked what I had done and took a sip in the side... and my thoughts just STOPPED when I realised what I was tasting! This thing is so soft and silkysmooth and like someone said little bit of burnt cane sugar with such a good balance of flavour! This is THE best semi-mature rum I''ve ever tasted! My god I want some more!
