Cruzan is a golden single barrel rum of some renown, having been made on St. Croiz since the mid-eighteenth century. The rums used for the single barrel release - the distillery's top-of-the-range offering - are aged up to twelve years and spend a year marrying in new oak after blending before each cask is bottled individually.

Nose : Ginger, burnt rubber, baked bananas with brown sugar (getting hungry again). Pretty intense. Some citrus and passionfruit notes as it develops, also hazelnuts. A very complex nose.
Palate: Silky-smooth. Cake spices, banana, demerara sugar, almonds, prunes, apricots. A really classy character that keeps on developing.
Finish: Long, smooth and quite amazingly complex. We like.
Comment: One of the first rums I ever tried - just before it disappeared from our shelves for several years. Great to have it back - like welcoming home an old friend.

This rum is NOT the same style as zaya or zacapa; unfair to compare. It IS a quality rum. If you like the oak in your high end rums, this one has it x10. It balances nicely with cola, but is also nice on its own as a smooth sipper if you want to get away from a mouth full of diabetes for a bit. This cruzan is more like a cheap brugal 1888, and much better than tommy bahama gold. I'd say its totally worthy. If you have bacardi oakheart, throw it away. This is the REAL oakheart

I finally got a chance to try this rum after hearing a lot of good things and was suitably impressed. I'm a big fan of the aforementioned rums Zaya and Zacapa and this didn't disappoint, definitely a great buy for the price.

Please don't waste this rum on mixers, you have the rest of the Cruzan lineup for that but this is a sipping rum. It might not taste as complex as it smells but still a great and extra smooth rum, I would give it 9/10.

Total agreement with the previous post. Nice rum and an excellent mixer, but definately not a sweet sipper like Zaya or Zacapa.
