A somewhat forgotten Springbank, overlooked by most in favour of the (admittedly great) 21yo. This is a different kind of special Springbank, distilled in the early 1970s and matured in refill sherry casks - yet despite a 91 point rating from whiskyfun.com it never really became as well known as pehaps it deserved. Still a great whisky.

Tasting notes by Whiskyfun (Serge Valentin)

Colour: astonishingly light (pale straw).

Nose: very waxy, grandma’s cupboard, vanilla, natural varnish. Hints of spices (cinnamon) and flowers (lavender). The whole is still quite fresh and so nicely balanced. A little coconut developing after a while, but perhaps that’s the mind’s work.

Mouth: sweet and quite oily, on resin and propolis. Really a great mouthfeel. Some bitter orange and a little Turkish delight. Quite complex! The finish is long and bold, on orange marmalade. An excellent new-old official Springbank! 91 points.
