Tasting Notes:
Producer's Tasting Notes

Appearance: Amber.

Nose: Rich and fruity – Victoria plums, greengages, perhaps dried orange peel – with some butterscotch or rum toffee and a thread of smoke behind. The smoke soon advances into the foreground and the toffee note is joined by a light mintiness. With water maritime characteristics emerge – dry boat varnish, edible seaweed. Still sweet; now with notes of iodine and the smokiness of an un-struck match.

Body: Full. Pleasant, smooth.

Palate: Sweet in front, then more assertive, with a whiff of smoke. The overall effect is warming. The development is towards smoke, coal-tar and toffee.

Finish: Medium length. Talisker’s™ characteristic chilli ‘catch’ in the finish is subtly present in the aftertaste.

Tasting notes by Annabel Meikle

Baked orange pudding sprinkled with cinnamon, pomanders and a trace of manila envelope. A silky mouth feel and develops into richer orange marmalade with burnt edges.

Toffee and rich peat smoke on the nose. The alcohol bite on the palate gives way to rich sweet peat smoke, some sea notes and plenty of peppery spice. Nicely rounded and complete. Some wood, too, suggesting its age. Like chewing honeycomb and smoky bacon at the same time. Long, spicy and peaty finish. Whisky doesn’t get much finer than this.

Elegant with fascinating balance between smoke and subtle sweet fruit. Ever changing in the glass and on the palate. Gentle waves of flavour, superb balance and a classic peppery finish. Seamless.

Customer Reviews:
This is exceptional whisky.. I'm a big fan of the 10 yo but this is Whisky Nirvana... layers of golden honey, fish-oil, ginger, chili-oil, oranges, sun cream? well that's what I nosed and a host of oaks and sap oil... beautiful stuff

Lovely - like licking a tyre.

An excellent whisky! Very difficult to obtain in the US. I am told that it comes to the states in very limited quantities. If you get the chance I highly recommend getting 2 bottles, one for now and the other to save for a special occasion . I think that anyone who likes single malt will be impressed.

it's really a nice whisky , i love it , i will order it again .

All-What am I missing. I get the medicinal and astingent flavors and that is it. I am slightly disappointed, expecting the smooth smokiness of a good scotch. Vanilla, rum and orange hints would take alot of imagination...

A fabulous mature Island single malt with delicious smoke and trademark peppery finish. Many young whiskies lose some of their powerful characteristics as they age - but not Talisker! Underneath the elegantly seemless layers of wood and fruit, this 18yo has everything the already very good 10yo has to offer - and even more. Simply amazing! 9 out of 10

The more I drink of my bottle the better it gets. *Seriously* good whisky. The beautiful spiced orange note is just perfection. I agree with the "anonymous" post, 28 Oct '10. I'm really not sure if I've ever tatsted such a balanced whisky...

The real beauty of the 18 y/o is the balance. Yes there is peat, yes there is a maritime saltiness and yes there is the classic Talisker pepperiness we all adore. But it is the absolute harmony of it all coming together that makes it very, very special. Robert Louis Stevenson called Talisker "the King O Drinks" when it comes to the 18y/o..........he may have been right!JL Glasgow

A stone cold classic. No other words for it.

After more time to reflect and sample this Talisker, I have concluded it is truly magnificent. Simply outstanding.

A truly classy dram, but almost too smooth for my liking. I really enjoy the 10yr old and 57 North, and simply adore the Distillers Edition, but for me this lacks the huge savoury punch you get with the others. However, the lack of power is replaced with elegance, and super smooth flavours of oak and a more subtle trade mark Talisker pepper finish.I fear the smoothness will lead to a 'quick finish' for the bottle!

An all time favorite and worth every penny, or cent....

Given some to tasteI'm sure I would find it not too far from the ideal single malt whiskey one could be given. Post if you have some to give

One of the best, most evocative and sensuous noses in the whisky industry. This is a peerless malt.

First Scotch I have had a chance to explore and enjoy. Peat is very present on the nose with some medicinal aromas A salty characteristic is detectable. Astringent woody notes and I REALLY like Producer's flavor description of: the smokiness of an un-struck match!
