Appearing at the beginning of 2007, this is likely to be mostly comprised of the phenomenal malts that were being produced by BenRiach in the mid-1960s. These whiskies have gained an incredible tropical fruitiness over time and also benefit from a rich layer of chewy peat. An absolutely delicious, rich, textured malt, and beautifully presented with a pewter hipflask. Please note that this bottle does not have the 5cl mini that originally accompanied this release.

Harvest gold /topaz / autumnal color;  Impeccable purity. 

I'm stunned at the vibrant, assertive pruny /figgy opening aroma that's a dead ringer for Christmas-season fruitcake or mince pies; following additional air contact the fruit perfume adds notes of walnut, chestnut, nutmeg and paraffin - the youthfulness of this bouquet is beguiling and admirable. 

Entry is vividly fruity /nutty and rife with full-fledged tastes of orange zest, cherries, black tea and chocolate.  Finishes with all the verve and panache of a whisky half its age.  One of the two or three finest 40-year-old or older malts I've ever reviewed, period.
