A new line from Balvenie, finished in new American oak casks. We know what you're thinking - how is it different to last year's 'New Wood' bottling? Well, it's quite simple: 'New Wood' didn't specify what kind of casks were used for the initial maturation, while this is announced as a marriage of Bourbon and Sherry wood casks! Also, it's 43% rather than 40%. And, most importantly, 'New Wood' was a never-to-be-repeated release, whereas this is a 'First Bottling'. You see? Totally different.

Producer's Tasting Notes

Colour: A rich & golden glow, full of warmth.

Nose: A rich vanilla oakiness with gentle spice and subtle honey notes on the nose.

Taste: Rich layering of oaky vanilla, dried fruits (apricot & dates) with a spicy character.

Finish: The characteristic Balvenie honey sweetness comes through - soft, warm and lingering.

At the 2006 International Spirits Challenge, The Balvenie was awarded gold medals for its Founder’s Reserve 10 Year Old, DoubleWood 12 Year Old, Balvenie New Wood 17 Year Old, PortWood 21 Year Old, Balvenie Thirty and Balvenie Portwood 1991. This is the biggest gold medal haul for any brand in any one year since the competition began. William Grant founded Balvenie whisky in 1889. William Grant was born on 19 December 1839 in his father's house in Dufftown.
