Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

  • Tasting Notes from Whiskyfun (Serge Valentin)

    • Colour

      White wine.

    • Nose

Another world. One of these restless, very natural indie HP’s that are so different from the OB’s that one may wonder if it’s from the very same distillery. Big porridge, pears, pollen, cut grass, ashes, birch smoke, dry white wine (sauvignon and riesling), lemon, nutmeg and wet wood. As restless as the 16yo was peaceful.

    • Mouth

Excellent, big attack, very coherent with the nose, starting with peppered dried pears, dried apples, cloves, cinnamon, tannins (not aggressive but big), acacia honey (but where’s the heather?)... Gets more liquoricy and candied with time, with also notes of quinces and bergamot sweets. Really full-bodied – to say the least.

    • Finish

Long, more peppery, smokier and spicier, as well as more honeyed. An ever-going Highland Park that needs a little time if you want to catch all its various layers in fact. Excellent, in any case. 88 points.

  • Tasting Notes by TF

    • Nose

Baked apple, cinnamon, clove, spiced pear. Some grass and floral notes, develops to brown sugar. Some slightly dusty oak shows itself eventually.

    • Palate

Sweet honey bursts across the tongue, then apple, some oak spice, gingernuts, clove, pepper, grass and smoky heather notes develop along with a sweet malt flavour. Medium to full-bodied.

    • Finish

Spices and smoke still going strong, malt and fruit gain ground towards the end.

    • Comment

Good stuff with the fruit and the smokiness the highlights.
