It's distilled in Kentucky. It's made with 'Bourbon Mash'. But it's not actually a bourbon at all, this is an 'Old-style American whiskey. In plain English, it can't be called Bourbon because it is aged in re-used oak barrels, whereas to be called Bourbon a whiskey must be aged in new barrels. So this is pretty interesting stuff.

Stillbrook was the whiskey served at Fox Run country club in in Jefferson county MO. It was a wedding reception and it was the base whisky for the bar. I asked to try it and I found it pleasant. Stillbrook had a soft nose with some mellow bourbon notes. It was smooth and pleasant in the nothing too pronounced other than a bourbon flavor but very quiet. It did not have that pronounced bourbon character familiar to many bottom shelf bourbons even. It did not have a noticeable ethanol nose or taste. It was just a plain pleasant whiskey. The good flavor was unremarkable yet very versatile for a simple barand simple tastes. Bourbon aficionados will find it ok but lacking in the depth and uniqueness we seek as we get through our journeys of American liquid heritage. If it’s offered take it seek it out maybe for a non whiskey centered gathering of friends or neighbors.
I used to buy Imperial quarts of Stillbrook when in Thailand in 1974. It helped me stretch my GI pay and was a pretty good boubon to boot!
