This is an outstanding malt, beautifully balancing smokiness and sweetness. I agree to some extent with Nibs on the similarity to Uigeadail, although it's not quite as smooth, at a lower ABV (46%) and a much lower price. One of my favourites, and one of the best malts in the £30 - £40 range.
What a whiskey, thought id give it a go as im a big islay fan. very impressed easily up there with some of the best islay whiskies and great value for money, reminded me a lot of Ardbeg Uigeadail. Sweet peat, smoked bacon and syrup what a dram.
Most unusual Of a brace Of Benriachs tried at a tasting last night with their ambassador Stewart Buchanan. Like a sherried Laphroaig I had from SMWS some while back. A Bit "all Over the place" but great fun. It did divide opinion. What takes precedence, peat Or sherry? The former, just, but the sherry is ever present, and none too subtle. Great fun. Wouldn;t mind a Brace Of Benriachs- one For every mood. But which is the definitive dram?
Nice, very nice malt, the perfect sweety-smoky delicaty, one of my favourites.
