A welcome addition to the 'Rare & Prestigious' series from Whyte & Mackay, this Dalmore has been aged in casks that previously held Gonzalez-Byass's stunning sherries. The whiskey started life in 'Apostoles' Palo Cortado casks, before spending its last five years in 'Matusalem' Oloroso sherry butts.

Nose: Intense orange zest with hints of African cinnamon, Swiss chocolate and ripe bananas from the tropics. Classic tones of liquorice, crushed ripe apples and rich Java coffee drift softly in the background.
Taste: Complex fusion of flavours offer Seville orange peel and bitter Swiss chocolate with notes of dried fruits and walnuts from our single, robust 30 year old Matusalem Oloroso sherry butt.

I had a dram of it at The Craigellachie Hotel last weekend along with the 40yo, both absolute stunners and clearly the best Dalmore bottlings I have ever tasted! Exceptional nose, complex yet warming on the palate and a great long finish. Quintessential Whisky!

It certainly does look exceptional. Was the colour of this release 'enhanced' by caramel in any way?

Goodness gracious. I haven't tasted it, or anything. Just looking at it has me in raptures. If anyone asks what my favourite colour is now, I just respond with "Dalmore red".
