Bunnahabhain 1979 / 28 Year old
Single Islay Malt Scotch Whisky
The first bottling of this batch of Bunna at 46% was rapturously received. This one is very similar and possibly even better. Medium-bodied with a beautiful delicacy and honeyed floral notes.

Arrived yesterday, and had the time to sit down and give it the attention it deserves. I like the peaty and smoky whisky's a lot, but this is a refreshing alternative. And to think it was distilled on the same island as Ardbeg and Lagavulin. Cracking drink, and the notes are spot on.

Tasting Notes by TF

Nose:  Light, and attractive, with fresh green apple, citrus zest and some exotic fruit.  Develops floral and heather aromas, some mild clove, cinnamon and vanilla, honey, Murray mints and castor sugar.

Palate:  Delicate and elegant mouth arrival, with the apple from the nose evolving to apple pie.  Medium-bodied, with the exotic fruit (pineapple syrup) and the other elements from the nose all present.

Finish:  Medium-length and perfectly-balanced with a faint trace of woodsmoke on the finish.

Comment:  Obviously I'm biased, but the previous release of this was my favourite of our bottlings from last year, and I think I might actually prefer this.  An incredibly elegant Bunna, gentle, fruity and very very more-ish.  I could drink this all day.

Bunnahabhain Distillery
THE BUNNAHABHAIN DISTILLERY lies on the peaceful, sheltered north-eastern coast of Islay, the most southerly of the Hebridean Islands. Built in 1881 its name comes from the Gaelic, Bunnahabhain (Bu-na-ha-venn), meaning ‘mouth of the river’, a reference to the Margadale, the river from whose clear Spring waters the whisky is distilled.
