Nose: Earthy, with some floral notes and a suggestion of pear. Ginger snaps, apple blossom, haystacks. Becomes more honeyed. Develops some smoky notes.
Palate: Medium-full. Quite woody initally, with old varnished church pews, cooked apples and hot peppery spices. Water tames it somewhat, leaving sweet spices and fruit.
Finish: Long, warming, fairly astringent. The spices win out towards the end.
Comment: Mellows out with a drop of water.
