Nose: Lively. Honeycomb, fresh ginger, then rich gingerbread, evident sherry, fudge, tiny shred of sulphur but nothing too dramatic. Very restrained peat, slight kippery notes, old wood. Eventually some chocolate notes and roasted nuts emerge.
Palate: Medium-full. Honey first, then burnt wood, coal smoke, ash, rich freshly-cut peat, some strong lemony citrus and brine. Like a bonfire that has been suddenly put out with water. A healthy dash of pepper and red chilli.
Finish: Lingering spices, coal and woodsmoke. Warming.
Comment: Definitely an autumnal dram, with plenty of fire in its belly. The perfect accompaniment to a long walk through a wooded park in October. Very enjoyable.
Nose: Salty fresh, sweet, with a distant smokiness.
Palate: Starts sweet with marzipan and runs to toasted nuts / leather.
Finish: Warm, rich and sweet while the smoke develops.
