A relaunch of an old, old spirit, Genever was the precursor to English gins, as well as being the origin of the phrase 'Dutch Courage'. This is a totally authentic and unique drink that should be tried by anyone with an interest in gin.
Bols Jenever is a very old acquaintance; back in the 'fifties I worked in the British Cameroons. The Agricultural Supervisor was a Dutchman who, after each monthly meeting, insisted that we downed in one,a small glass brimmed full with Bols which had been heavily laced with Angostura. We nicknamed it "Sander's Blood" after him.

Hi Deborah - first trip to Amsterdam on business about 15 years ago I went into a bar and ordered a beer - barman said 'would you like a Gin with that?'.......what a civilised place the Netherland is......

This is a wonderful drink that is best sipped along with a cooled beer.. The Dutch beer is not gassy like the crap you get here in the UK. The Dutch serve it ice cold so it is like syrup in a little skunar glass which is filled above the brim of the glass creating a bubble! It's gorgeous you must try! It is where the term 'Dutch courage' comes from.

I had some (BOLS Oude Genever) back in 1982, direct from Nederlands. Drank it straight! I can't do that with London Gins.Going to try a bottle from the WEx, to see if it lives up to my memories.I'll let you know the result :-)

This is very odd stuff... I love gin but couldn't drink this at all I am afraid... it went down the sink - I have NEVER done that before or since! OK if you know what you are letting yourself in for but if you a gin fan who fancies a change... hmm.
