Some very exciting new things today:

First up we have Chichibu the First - the first single malt whisky from Ichiro Akuto's distillery. Long awaited, after many peeks into his maturing casks via the Newborn range, and really rather good.

Next we have an incredible whisky - a 1981 Karuizawa single cask, bottled for exclusively The Whisky Exchange. This is another we've been waiting on for a while, but it's finally here and everything we hoped for.

And finally another exclusive - a single cask 100 proof Rittenhouse Rye. We chose the cask and we chose well: it's a big and spicy rye that's great on it's own or in a classic cocktail. A bit of a triumph.

A long awaited release from Ichiro Akuto's Chichibu distillery - their first whisky, aged for three years. It was a hit at the 2011 Whisky Show and the slow boat from Japan finally deposited it on our shores in early 2012.

First up is Thor, God of Thunder and alleged architect of the Cliffs of Yesnaby on the west coast of Orkney Mainland. It's a 16 year old whisky bottled at a full proof of 52.1% and presented in a wooden frame styled after the prow of a viking longboat.

The 2011 entry in Glenmorangie's Private Edition range, named Artein, meaning 'Stone'. This matches up with the meaning of Sassicaia (from 'Sasso', also stone), the 'Super Tuscan' wine previously held in the barrels used to finish this whisky. It's got 15 years old on the label, but it's actually made up of 2 parts 15 year old to 1 part 21 year old whisky for a solid mix of well matured Glenmorangie.

Just in time for Christmas, we've got some very interesting stuff from one of Scotland's newest distilleries, Abhainn Dearg.  The tiny distillery is located on the west coast of the Isle of Lewis and is therefore Scotland's most westerly distillery.  Founded in 2008, Abhainn Dearg's spirit has just come of age and can now legally be called whisky having spent the requisite 3 years in casks.  We've also got some of their earlier 'work in progress' release aka Spirit of Lewis, an aged malt spirit under three years old.
