Welcome To The Macallan 1824 Series

The Macallan's exceptional oak casks deliver a wide range of naturally coloured whiskies.
The darker the colour, the richer the flavour and the rarer and more precious the whisky.

The Macallan Gold

Single Malt Scotch Whisky
70cl / 40%

The Macallan Gold is the perfect introduction to
the 1824 Series. With the colour of burnished
yellow gold from maturation in 100% First Fill and
Refill Spanish and American Oak Sherry seasoned
casks, the citrus, chocolate and sweet spices of this
medium weight Macallan shine across the palate.

The Macallan Amber

Single Malt Scotch Whisky
70cl / 40%

The Macallan Amber has a deeper hue than its
stablemate Gold, thanks to a different
combination of Spanish Oak and American Oak
Sherry seasoned casks contributing deep
golden amber tones. The Macallan Amber
begins with citrussy notes, before developing a
richer palate of fruit flavours and spicy hints.

The Macallan Sienna

Single Malt Scotch Whisky
70cl / 40%

The Macallan Sienna is an evocative natural
reddish-brown colour after maturation in 100%
First Fill Spanish Oak and American Oak Sherry
seasoned casks - no Refill casks are used. Sienna's
citrus notes manifest as orange rather than lemon,
and the oak influence is even clearer, with notes
of patisserie spices and rich vanilla.

The Macallan Ruby

Single Malt Scotch Whisky
70cl / 40%

The Macallan Ruby has been assembled using
only 100% First Fill Spanish Oak and American
Oak Sherry seasoned casks. These handpicked
casks have given The Macallan Ruby a deep
gold colour with a dark red tinge and a palate
of rich, sweet dark fruit and spicy oak.

Natural Colour

The Macallan's 1824 Series is a revolutionary range of single
malts based on the spectrum of naturally-occurring colours
exhibited by The Macallan's single malts after their years of
maturation in the finest sherry oak casks.

The 1824 Series

The four single malts that make up the 1824 series - Gold,
Amber, Sienna and Ruby - not only reflect the colour of the
whisky which in turn reflects its flavour.

Philosophy

Each of the expressions in The 1824 Series has been created
by The Macallan's Whisky Maker Bob Dalgarno to derive its
character from the colour it represents. This revolutionary
approach is a first for single malt Scotch whisky, ensuring that
The Macallan retains its reputation for innovation while still
adhering rigidly to its established traditional standards and
practices, enshrined in the distillery’s Six Pillars philosophy.

Nose

A lemon citrus nose, then orange peel and an
interlacing sweetness that softens, but doesn't
eliminate, the zest. A quiet note of vanilla followed by
dark chocolate - more assertive, yet not overly so -
with lingering floral and light oak notes.

Palate

Citrus and boiled sweets rule the palate, along with
hints of ginger and cinnamon, while soft oak tones
reveal toasted apples.

Finish

The finish is medium sweet, malty and slightly dry.

Nose

Polite, almost apologetic at first, with a floral, citrus
sweet nose gaining presence, commanding a chorus of
sweet vanilla notes over freshly harvested grain. Raisin,
sultana and cinnamon look on as toffee apples and
candy floss step into the limelight.

Palate

On the palate, fresh green apples and lemons mingle
with cinnamon. Ginger notes hover as fruit takes over,
with subtle oak lingering in the wings.

Finish

The finale is light to medium, with soft fruits and
cereal, slightly dry.

Nose

This warm, sienna-coloured spirit opens with a subtle
vanilla nose, persistent yet not overpowering. Orange
elbows its way in, turning zesty and sharp, though
tempering green apples add freshness and balance.
Next come white chocolate truffles, chewy and
sumptuous, with elegant oak notes for a digestif.

Palate

Dates, figs and raisins lead the palate, then defer to
nutmeg and ginger with a soupçon of oranges and
apples, before vanilla returns in majesty.

Finish

The final fanfare is gentle, smooth and warming.

Nose

Disturbed from a long sleep in a dark and quiet
warehouse, European Oak piques the nose before
reluctantly admitting rich, dried fruits and an edgy
trickle of treacle. A hesitant sweetness enters, then oak
reasserts itself, burnished and mature.

Palate

On the palate a rush of ginger, nutmeg and resin herald
orange, sultana and raisin with their restrained but
pervasive sweetness. Clove is here and gone, leaving
oak the undisputed maestro.

Finish

The finish of this ruby-red spirit is long, lingering and reflective.
