In the spirit of Spring and the arrival of Daylight Saving Time, we've turned away from wintry drinks and dark spirits and put together a list of ideas for some great gin and vodka-based drinks for Springtime. Enjoy these cracking cocktails with friends in celebration of the Rites of Spring.

With the flowers starting to bloom we've
looked to fresh tasting, vibrant cocktails,
bringing in mixers like tomato juice and ginger
ale and floral liqueurs like Elderflower
and Violette.

We're not quite into the summer yet, so some
spice from Tanqueray Malacca and sweet
Luxardo cherries
won't go amiss, but for those
missing the sun, a Belvedere Vodka with
Mediterranean Tonic should evoke some beachy
memories in preparation for later in the year.

English Garden

50ml Hendrick's Gin

50ml Apple Juice

25ml Bramley & Gage
Elderflower Liqueur

12.5ml Fresh Lime Juice

Cucumber to garnish

1 measure

1. Add 2 measures of Hendrick's gin, 2 measures
of apple juice, 1 measure of Bramley & Gage
Elderflower Liqueur and 1/2 a measure of freshly
squeezed lime juice (about half a lime's worth)
to a cocktail shaker.

2. Add lots of ice and shake.

3. Fine strain into two teacups full of ice,
garnish with slices of cucumber and serve
on the veranda.

Tanqueray Malacca

50ml Tanquery Malacca

12.5ml Lemon Juice

12.5ml Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur

Luxardo Maraschino Cherries to garnish

1. Add 2 measures of Tanqueray Malacca,
1/2 a measure of lemon juice and 1/2 a measure of
Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur to a cocktail shaker.

2. Fill with ice and shake well.

3. Fine strain into a chilled martini glass and
garnish with a proper Luxardo cherry.

For a more classic Aviation try adding 1/4 of
a measure of Briottet Crème de Violette
before shaking.

Copper House
Bloody Mary

50ml Copper House Barley Vodka

Tomato Juice

Celery Salt, Black Pepper,
Tabasco, Worcestershire Sauce

Lemon wedge to garnish

1. Fill a tall highball glass with ice cubes,
add 2 measures of Copper House Barley vodka
and top up with tomato juice.

2. Add Tabasco, Worcestershire Sauce, celery salt
and black pepper to taste and stir gently.

3. Garnish with a lemon wedge.

To make things more interesting add half a
measure of dry red wine or try using
Adnams's North Cove Aged Vodka

Perfect St. Patrick's Cocktails
Only a few good mixed drinks recipes for Irish whiskey exist, but there are three absolute classics:
Irish Coffee

40ml Irish whiskey
(we recommend Bushmills Black Bush)

Freshly brewed coffee

1 tsp brown sugar

Double Cream

Whip the cream to a thick, but pourable, consistency, then refrigerate.

Pour the whiskey into a tall, thick-walled glass (ideally with a handle or a thick stem).

Top up with freshly-brewed coffee to an inch below the top of the glass.

Stir in the sugar – this helps the cream to float.

Gently pour the cream over the back of a spoon onto the top of the drink.

Jameson & Ginger

50ml Irish Whiskey
(we recommend Jameson Select Reserve)

Ginger Ale

Pour the whiskey into a tall tumbler glass filled with ice.

Top up with the ginger ale.

Garnish with a large slice of lime.

Hot Toddy

40ml Irish Whiskey
(we recommend Powers Gold Label)

1 tsp honey

Hot Water

Pour the whiskey into a tall, thick-walled glass (ideally with a handle).

Top up with hot (not boiling) water and stir in the teaspoon of honey.

Garnish with a large slice of lemon, studded with cloves. Cinnamon sticks are another popular garnish.
