Macallan 1928 / 50 Year Old

75cl / 38.6%  -  Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky
One of the first ever 50 year-old single malt whiskies ever released, although the label states ‘Over 50 Years Old’, this Macallan 1928 was actually bottled in 1983 (making it in fact a 55 year-old).

Famously collectable, Macallan 1928 was originally sold in the UK, Germany, France and the USA for around £50, but as its reputation grew the price steadily increased. Interestingly, the whisky was bottled at its natural cask strength of 38.6%, well below the 40% standard which is now the legal minimum bottling strength for all whiskies.

Macallan Distillery

During the late Eighties and early Nineties Macallan 1928 broke the record auction price for malt whisky many times and was so highly sought-after that it remained the world's most expensive whisky until a few years ago.

This legendary whisky is now extremely difficult to find. A bona fide treasure for collectors, the release of Macallan 1928 50yo was a major landmark for one of the world’s most famous distilleries and remains a key event in the history of single malt whisky itself.
