Famously collectable, Macallan 1928 was originally sold in the UK, Germany, France and the USA for around £50, but as its reputation grew the price steadily increased. Interestingly, the whisky was bottled at its natural cask strength of 38.6%, well below the 40% standard which is now the legal minimum bottling strength for all whiskies. |
During the late Eighties and early Nineties Macallan 1928 broke the record auction price for malt whisky many times and was so highly sought-after that it remained the world's most expensive whisky until a few years ago.
This legendary whisky is now extremely difficult to find. A bona fide treasure for collectors, the release of Macallan 1928 50yo was a major landmark for one of the world’s most famous distilleries and remains a key event in the history of single malt whisky itself. |
