Nose: A rather subtle nose with hints of peat, vanilla and liquorice.
Palate: A creamy texture is apparent, with notes of almonds, vanilla, pineapple and grapefruit.
Finish: A subtle yet long finish, with peat and a touch of pineapple continuing to the end.
Comment: A well aged whisky, elegant yet full of flavour. I can imagine myself slowly sipping this as a postprandial dram.

One of my favorite whiskies. Much richer than it's 12 yr. brother though the palate doesn't live up to the promise of the nose. Nice finish where the peat and smoke balance the sweetness of the extra aging. My second favorite after Bowmore 18.
This dram has dissapeared from the shelves of stores in Central US. If anyone knows where it can be found please post and thanks in advance.

This is an outstanding whisky-so much smoother than the 12 year old. Love the warm peaty rounded nose. Exceptional.

To follow on from my Sep 21 review, this stuff is great, I prefer it to Laphroaig 15 now, I can only assume I had a bad bottle first time around, although I was advised to open any new single malt bottle for 15 minutes when you are about to take the first dram from it, to let it "breathe" and this , I find, makes a difference to many Single Malts.

The nose on this is insane, the late peat attack is nice , but not quite as good as anticipated, but the nose is amazing, A Quality Dram

I take back my last post, after getting to the end of this bottle. This stuff is sublime and seems to taste better every time I come back to it. Like a lot of full flavor scotchs, it needs to breath a little to be at its best. A new favorite! This is definetely better than the Laphroaig 15!

I found this very similar to Laphroaig 15, not better, but just a little different. I agree this is much better than the 12, which I did not care for much.

For some reason I didnt take to it, Laphroaig 15yo blows this out of the water

I wouldn't say it outclasses its younger sibling by that distance. I'd say it is a case of marginal gains: in each area it is that little bit better, and I think the 12 YO is one of the very best. The cask has done its job. This is mellower, deeper, sweeter. It's just fantastic.

Caol Ila 18 has a beautiful nose, restrained compared with other peaty whiskies, but something you don't want to quit smelling. Peat and honey. The palate is a bit disappointing after the nose; it's weak, thin, watery. Too bad! Anyway, the flavors are consistent with the nose. The finish picks up again. Peat, some burn. Nice! Improves overall with time on palate and finish. Pros: nose, finish, bang-for-the-buck (reasonable compared to other Islayers). Cons: weak palate.

My wife bought me a bottle of this lovely whisky for my birthday last year to drink on our holiday in Cyprus. I had tried the 12 year old which I enjoyed. However the 18 year stood head and shoulders above it. It is superb
