A 24 year old Brora from 1981, bottled in 2006 by Ian Macleod for their Chieftan's range of whiskies. Distilled only a couple of years before the distillery closed down, this spent its life maturing in a cream sherry butt for an interesting mix of flavours.
A real treat here - a cask-strength 40yo Springbank 1968 bottled for the Chieftain's range from a single Oloroso sherry butt. This is a phenomenal whisky - hats off to Ian Macleod for digging this up.
This idiosyncratic pocket guide to the world's most interesting drams has been one of our bestsellers this year. As one might expect from Ian Buxton, the list has its controversies and will no doubt provoke a debate as to what should or shouldn't have been included. Tremendous fun.
An engagingly-written history of the most versatile of world spirits from renowned cane spirits expert Ian Williams. As the title suggests, this si not only the history of prooduction, but also focuses on the considerable impact of rum on society and world history. Wide-ranging and well-researched, this is an excellent addition to the rum canon.
A very fancy coffee-table volume on the historic Dewar's brand from Ian Buxton, who has written an extensive history of the brand, together with profiles of key figures and a look at the Aberfeldy distillery now at the heart of the blend. The book is also a visual delight, packed with ancient photos and amusing old adverts.
